Dr Justin Savage, Lead Clinical Psychologist

Dr Savage uses training and experience in various therapies such as, Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness to work with a range of people and problems. He specialises in ISTDP as this approach is designed to be highly effective and create long lasting change in as short a time-frame as possible. He works collaboratively with people to tailor therapy to individual needs.

He has been working in mental health since 2003, having gained his first degree in psychology. He subsequently qualified as a Clinical Psychologist from the University of Birmingham and worked for several years in secondary care adult mental health services in the NHS. This involved working with moderate to severe mental health problems including eating disorders, anxiety, depression and personality disorders. Supervising, consultation and teaching were also regular parts of his roles.

As the Lead Clinical Psychologist, he oversees the therapeutic input of the wellbeing centre and offers therapy to adults as individuals, groups and couples. He also provides consultation, teaching, training and supervision. He is professionally registered with both the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). Dr Savage receives regular clinical supervision and peer supervision from qualified colleagues.

Kay Mayes, Counsellor

Kay Mayes is a Counsellor who is a Registered Member of the BACP. Her training was completed in Shrewsbury in 2005 and during this time she worked in the Drug and Alcohol field.

Kay has undertaken training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness. Kay uses an Integrative Counselling approach to clients which means that she is both non-directive and person centred.

Kay’s career has meant that she has worked with a variety of mental health problems including anxiety, depression, bereavement, substance misuse and relationship problems. Kay has worked with a varied client group including people who have suffered catastrophic injuries.

Gemma Forshaw, CBT/EMDR Therapist

Gemma is a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and trained EMDR therapist. She is fully accredited with the BABCP and has over 13 years’ experience working within Primary Care Mental Health Services, delivering high quality and evidence-based psychological therapies to people suffering psychological distress, including: depression, anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, trauma, PTSD, health anxiety, panic disorder, agoraphobia, OCD, low self-worth, interpersonal difficulties.

Among other qualifications, she has a BSc Hons degree in Psychology with Counselling Skills, a Post Graduate Certificate in Primary Mental Health Care, a Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and has completed training in EMDR; Parts 1, 2 & 3.

Gemma works collaboratively with people to identify and work towards their goals using effective approaches to best meet their needs and achieve the most out of therapy. A focus often includes helping towards preventing similar difficulties in the future by people being able to develop greater insights into things that maintain problems and importantly, developing various strategies to change these.

Dr Helen Crowther-Green, Clinical Psychologist

Dr Crowther-Green is a clinical psychologist with over 16 years of clinical experience working within the NHS, helping both children and adults with a range of emotional and psychological difficulties. She is professionally registered with both the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). 

Dr Crowther-Green qualified as a Clinical Psychologist from the University of Plymouth and has subsequently gone on to do additional training in Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) , parent-child attachment based interventions, systemic family therapy and Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). 

She is passionate about providing evidence based psychological assessment and therapy that keeps the client informed and at the center of all decisions and choices. Through an equal and active therapeutic approach, Dr Crowther-Green aims to help people gain deep insight and understanding into the nature of their difficulties to facilitate long and lasting positive changes.
